Role-play Example:
It might be six years later than normal but Eddie was finally setting off on his Pokémon adventure just like everyone else had. Plus, he had a steady income too unlike others. Last but not least he had a great looking starter Pokémon from his bosses. Time would tell if the Pawniard was as good in battle as it looked.
"I choose you!" Eddie said, just for the heck of it as he held out the Pokéball and pressed the button, releasing his new Pokémon. In a stream of red light, his male level 5 Pawniard appeared.
It blinked and looked around. Eddie had gotten back to the mainland from the penninsula where the secret lab was and they were now on a long bare path surrounded on each side by tall grass and trees further away. The path was worn by the passage of many feet over time. Another pair of feet stood in front of him wearing black trainers. The Pokémon looked up.
"Hello." said a grinning teenage boy with brown hair and almost matching eyes. "I'm Eddie Boyd, your trainer."
The boy paused for a moment, looking over the Pokémon in front of him with barely hidden awe. He pulled out a Pokédex and registered the Pawniard in front of him on it as its first entry.
"I think I'll call you Paul." he said at last, choosing it because it was the first male name that sprung to mind that began with P. "We need to set up a communication system since I can't understand your language. How about one stamp for no, two stamps for yes. Do you understand?"
Paul stamped a foot twice.
"Great." Eddie beamed. "I suppose you could just nod or shake your head, actually... Right, let's go find some Pokémon to catch. I'd like to add to our team first before we get something for the boss. I've read about these things called shinies and if we find any of those before we add to the team they're going to the boss regardless. They must be worth more than regular ones, right?"
Paul stared up at his master and blinked slowly.
"Right, let's go." Eddie commanded, starting to walk down the path. Paul followed. As Eddie wandered, he wondered about how to find or attract Pokémon. He'd always been warned to stay away from long grass but surely they wouldn't be hiding in there just waiting for a human to stray off the path?
Eddie decided to test his theory. He picked up a stick at the side of the path and gave the grass near to him a mighty whack.
